This year our annual conference will be hosted by Ulster University in Belfast. This is set to be an amazing event, with great science, an lively conference dinner at the Europa Hotel in Belfast, and lots of fun with a traditional Irish band! Please ensure to save the date!

Abstract submissions were invited for oral, rapid-fire, and poster presentations in any area of biomaterials (and related research). In particular, abstract submissions were encouraged from postgraduate students and early career researchers (ECR) as this meeting is an excellent opportunity to present to a supportive and enthusiastic audience.

Information for Presenters

For those presenting at this year’s event please use the details below to help with oral and poster preparation

  • Oral presentations are 8 minutes with 2 minutes for questions
  • Rapid Fire presentations are 4 minutes with no questions. Please also bring a printed poster which will be supported by the rapid fire presentation.
  • Posters can be prepared up to A0 size (portrait orientation only). A1 size is acceptable. These will be put on standard poster boards for the duration of the conference. Please print and bring along your poster.
  • ALL oral and rapid fire presenters are asked to see your session chair in the break before your session starts. Please aim to have your talks uploaded onto the podium computer well in advance of your session

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded for the best postgraduate poster, rapid-fire and oral presentations along with the Presidents Prize, the Alan Wilson Memorial Prize and the Larry Hench Young Investigators Award. The Presidents Prize aims to recognise outstanding contributions to the UK Biomaterials field. The Alan Wilson Memorial Prize recognises an individual researcher who has contributed significantly to the field of biomaterials science in dentistry (including maxillo-facial repair). The Larry Hench Young Investigators Award is given to a promising young research scientist in recognition of outstanding and innovative contributions in a selected field of biomaterials research, and in remembrance of such a key figure of this field, Prof Larry Hench (1938-2015). Conference Accommodation and Travel Info

The Belfast campus of Ulster University is situated in the artistic and cultural centre of the city, the Cathedral Quarter. Although traditionally associated with art, the campus spans an increasing and exciting range of subjects including computing, engineering, business, politics, policy, law, communication, sports, architecture, hospitality, event management, photography and digital animation. The conference venue is in the city (Address – Ulster University, 2-24 York Street, Belfast. BT15 1AP) with the conference dinner being held at the Europa Hotel.

Getting to and around Belfast

The main meeting will start around 10am on 21st June, with an early career mixer event on the evening of the 19th June in the University – all very welcome. The event will close at around 4pm on 21st June.

Flying into Belfast

Northern Ireland has two airports Belfast City Airport (BHD) and Belfast International Airport (BFS)

The George Best Belfast City Airport is 5.6 km from Belfast City Centre and Belfast International Airport is 28 km from the City Centre. Taxis can be picked up at both airports. There is also a bus service between the airports and Belfast City Centre (Europa Bus Station, Great Victoria Street) operated by Translink.
